Description: Umi is nifty, not to mention a cooperative business working directly with a roasters co-op, and not yet a year old but functioning well. They've got a colorful selection of vegetarian sandwiches, soups, and salads, though the sandwiches aren't (yet) made fresh to order. The coffee is well-sourced and tasty, and the drinks are what you'd expect from any coffeehouse. (The iced espresso drinks are especially well-done.) Among the mismatched furniture are also a respectable bookshelf and a wall piano for patron use. Being on the outskirts of Chinatown, it's a convenient caffeine stop along the way back from a filling dinner; local bands often play the evenings.
